And if the Music is Good, You Dance

I love music. I mean I really, really fricking love it. And I like it all. I’ll listen to rap, country, hip hop, top 40, jazz, classical…I really don’t care as long as it moves me in some way. That’s what I love about music. I can always find something that fits exactly where I am in my life at any given moment. When the punks have me stressed out and I’m feeling annoyed I’ll gladly rock out to some Rage Against the Machine. Missing my mom and feeling nostalgic and I’ll throw on some John Denver or Foreigner (What can I say? It’s what she loved). In the mood to have a glass of wine while I cook dinner and I love me some Norah Jones.

When I was little I’d spend hours singing Madonna into a hairbrush and dancing in front of my full-length mirror. And I freaking loved Def Leopard and Bon Jovi so much I had their posters plastered on my walls in fourth grade. Sadly, singing a duet in the 4th-grade program is where my singing career began and ended, but my love affair with music is still strong all these years later.

I can’t imagine my life without music. It has literally gotten me through some of the worst days of my life and made milestones so much sweeter. It can take me back to high school dances where we were dirty dancing to “Freak Me” which now that I’m an adult is completely mortifying. Why in the hell were they letting a bunch of horny teenagers dance to that in the high school gym? It’s pretty much the same as when I was in the car with the punks dancing it out to “Blow my Whistle” and I actually listened to the words. Nothing like hearing your 3-year-old sing about getting a BJ. Ugh.

I still have pretty much every CD I’ve ever bought even though I don’t know the last time I actually listened to one. I filed them away, putting them in order by genre, should I ever decide to buy a portable CD player and break out the hits.

This is all the music I bought before I started downloading music. Now you can add another 656 songs to my collection. It is quite possible I have a problem with books and music but quite frankly I’m not interested in an intervention for either obsession so don’t bother, husband.

You can expect to hear about music I’ve discovered, or perhaps rediscovered, concerts I’ve been to, my latest downloads and what I’m currently in love with which changes pretty much every day. I’d love to know what you are currently loving as well as finding new music to add to my ever growing playlists. There’ll be no judgment from me either, I mean I can’t tell you that I don’t have Justin Bieber in my collection. Here’s a top 5 list of my current favorites:

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

Just Breathe – Pearl Jam

Fancy – Iggy Azalea

Bulls on Parade – Rage Against the Machine

Turn Down for What – DJ Snake & Lil Jon
